Jilin Medical University (former Jilin Medical College) was previously known as Air Force School of Medicine (Jilin Military Medical College) .The College was established in 1952 as Anshan Air Force Medical Middle School and then developed into Jilin Air Force Medical College. It was the only medical college of the Air Force. Jilin Air Force School of Medicine is enlisted/recognized by WHO (World Health Organization) in 1975. The college later merged with the largest of the military medical schools-the Forth Military Medical College of the Forth Military University of Chinese PLA. In 2015, it is renamed as Jilin Medical University (JMU). Until July 2004 it was one of the Chinese PLA (Peoples’ Liberation Army) Academies. The main purpose of the college was to train medical personnel for the Air Force. It was a military medical college with glorious history and fine tradition. In 2004 after the State Council and Military Commission reorganized the military medical schools the college became part of the national ordinary university system. It is now the only independent comprehensive medical university in Jilin province. There are more than 10,000 full-time undergraduate students in JMU. The college recruits students from all over China and foreign students.

Location: Jilin Medical University (JMU) is located near the Songhua River in the beautiful northeastern Chinese city of Jilin. Campus and facilities: JMU has a large campus with the modern buildings covering more than 360,000 square meters. It has state-of-the- art teaching facilities. The new teaching and research buildings are equipped with academic exchange centers, science halls, language labs, an electronic library reading room and on-line computer classrooms. All classrooms have modern multimedia teaching equipment. The college makes extensive use of multimedia teaching. The newly completed 48,000 square meter Experimental Medicine Center is furnished with advanced equipment and functions, it can accommodate more than 7,000 students at the same time.

MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) program in Jilin Medical University (JMU) is a program enrolls international undergraduates and teaches them in English medium for 6 academic years (including one year clinical rotational internship). The whole process of teaching and cultivation of international students is carried out strictly according to related international standards of medical education. JMU has been approved by MOE as qualified university to offer MBBS program for international students. JMU is recognized and accredited by the World Health Organization (WHO) and also listed in International Medical Education Directory (IMED) / Foundation of Advancement of The goal is to train medical bachelor graduates with solid scientific foundation of medicine, specified clinical skills, and good professional qualities. Graduates should master the basic principles and clinical skills of medical science and be able to analyze and make decisions by using evidence-and-experience-based scientific methods. Graduates should have perpetual learning and necessary management of illness, health promotion and disease prevention under the supervisors’/tutors’ guide, and finally be independent qualified doctors who meet the global requirements through further professional education.

The curriculum system in JMU has undertaken reform since 2012. The teaching schedule is based on the USMLE, MCI, NMC, PMDC, BMDC, SMC syllabus combining theory and practice instead of the former teaching mode: learn theory firstly then practice.

Internship

Students can do their internship in any third country or in their own country. It is not compulsory to do their internship at university hospitals. Those who want to do their internship in their own country; university will provide provisional certificate, no objection letter and other related certificates to students. Those who want to do their clinical internship in university, training will be arranged in our teaching hospitals or affiliated hospitals admitted by the national authority of where the international students come from. All teaching methods should emphasize on training of students’ abilities of critical thinking and information management and communication skills. Clinical courses should emphasize on training of the clinical skills, which include history of disease collection, physical examination, accessory examination, diagnosis and differential diagnosis, decision making and implement of diagnosis and treatment plans, clinical operation, clinical thinking and emergency treatment etc. Internship students are required to undertake one-year placement of training in clinical practice. No winter or summer holidays within placement period.

Housing and Dining:

Accommodation is international standard. There are student dining halls and also a Muslim canteen nearby campus, foreign students can have the food there.
