The Republic of Belarus is situated in the heart of Europe at the crossing of roads from West to East and from North to South. Its territory is traversed by the shortest communications linking the CIS member states with West European countries. Belarus is a landlocked country in the region, traditionally called European countries or Eastern Europe, bordering Russia to the east, Ukraine to the south, Poland to the West, and Lithuania and Latvia to the north. Its capital is Minsk and other major cities include Brest, Grodno, Gomel, Mogilev and Vitebsk.
Grodno is an ancient town founded in 1128. Now Grodno is a large industrial center with population of 350,000. Grodno is a very green town with many parks, garden and flowerbeds. Grodno is called the town of youth: three large universities and 7 colleges are in it.<
INTRODUCTION
Grodno State Medical University Founded in 1958. It keeps a prestigious place among the medical higher educational establishment of Belarus. High quality teaching guaranties students with high level of theoretical knowledge as well as practical skills and experience. Thousands of graduates have already evaluated high quality of medical education obtained in the Grodno State Medical University. Currently more than 2500 students attend classes at the university, among them 350 international students representing 26 countries worldwide. The Grodno State Medical University is a university recognized for educational, diagnostic and scientific center of medical science in the Republic of Belarus. GSMU co-operation with medical educational and research centers in Poland (Warsaw, Krakow, Poznan, Wroclaw, Bialystok), Germany (Kronach), Russia (Moscow, ST. Petersburg) and other places.
The advantage of the university is the forthcoming training of the students in the international program of Medical Tests. At the university there is a center for the arrangement of Post Graduate Medical Education in West Europe and the USA.
At present 50 Doctor of Science and Professors, 108 Asst. Professors, 209 Candidates of Science are employed at the University. There are four Research Laboratories at GSMU. Excellent students go to the West European Countries to participate in Medical Scientific Conference and Symposia. Professors and Scientists form European countries and USA make visits to deliver lectures.
University pays much attention to educational process. The library contains a large number of books and scientific journals in all branches of knowledge both in English and Russian and in other foreign languages. In the University library there are lots of comfortable reading rooms, catalogue room, computer equipped from providing free access to all world information resources. The students can work at the Internet Center with personal computers providing a high speed access to Internet resources. All the books are provided by library on compulsory basis (free of cost).
There is a flat type hostel for foreign students within 5 minute walk from the main building of the University. Each accommodation block has kitchen, bathroom and WC. All the rooms are fully furnished and include free Electricity, Gas, Water, and Heating Systems. Monthly Hostel maintenance fee is about 20 USD per 1 person. Students comfortable canteen offers a rich variety of different dishes. Students can get subsidized food at the canteen and the hostel for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The University has the best sports facilities among the other medical universities of the country including 2 large game halls, wrestling training room, shooting gallery and running hall. Cultural life at the University is multinational. The University Student club organizes cultural programs in which students of different countries take part.

There are Twenty three clinics functioning at the clinical departments of the university in Nine City, Regional and District Hospitals.
All overseas students of the Grodno State Medical University study at the faculty of General Medicine, can study 6 years in English Medium. Also Grodno State Medical University is the only Medical University that provides 6 Years high quality English Medium Medical Studies. Students who wish to study pre medical course before joining the Medical Faculty, will study Russian and special subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. The duration of training at the preparatory department is about 9 month. On successful completion of the preparatory studying course they are admitted to the University and study medical discipline in English.
The Russian language training includes the studying of all the disciplines in Russian language.
The English language training implies that students get education in English and acquire good knowledge in the Russian language to contact with patients.
After graduation from the University the graduates are granted International Diploma and are conferred the title of MD (Physician) eqvt. to MBBS.
In addition, the University provides the possibility of post graduate – Clinical residency and Post – graduate doctoral course (PhD) in various medical fields.
